Student Aide – Adult Cognitive Capabilities Program
Eaton Cognitive Improvement Center
Redmond, WA

Do you want to make a difference? Here is a chance to work in a program that’s on the cutting edge of education and brain science. This is a great opportunity to help students develop their cognitive, communication, and learning skills through hands-on exercises that actually change the way their brains function!

We are currently seeking a Student Aide for a 29-year-old woman who will be starting the Adult Cognitive Capabilities Program in Redmond in the fall. Katie’s learning difficulties caused her to struggle all through school, and she and her family felt she was looking at a lifetime of limited opportunities. However, the gains she made during her first year in the program were amazing, and give real hope for her future. She has found the support of a one-on-one aide to be of great benefit, mostly in helping her to keep on task, but also to help guide her through areas of difficulty in some of the exercises.

As an aide for Katie, you would work 15 to 20 hours per week. We are seeking someone who can commit to the position for the ECIC school year, which runs from September 2015 to the middle of June, 2016. Training is provided for this position. There may be the possibility of assisting another student in a different session, should additional hours be desired.

We’re looking for someone with the following skills and characteristics:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassion, patience, and the ability to set boundaries
• Flexibility, enthusiasm and high energy
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Detail oriented, focused, mature
• Good sense of humor
• Experience with learning disabilities
• An interest in brain science

The Eaton Arrowsmith Academy (K-12), and its adult and research counterpart the Eaton Cognitive Improvement Center, are cutting edge programs that draw from neuroscience to help students with learning difficulties increase their cognitive capacities. The Arrowsmith Program, started in Toronto, Canada over 30 years ago, has recently established the EAA and ECIC in Redmond, WA. The program is based on the principles of neuroplasticity, meaning the brain can change through targeted practice. Instead of teaching strategies to work around, or compensate for, weak cognitive areas, the Arrowsmith Program stimulates and strengthens these areas to increase cognitive capacities.

Please contact Joan Oldfield at or (206) 533-6089 for more information, or send your resume and cover letter to her directly.
